An experienced R&D Sourcing Associate is required to join a leading global pharmaceutical business in Cork. The role will be responsible for supporting a number of key spend categories across research, development and medical activities on a global and regional level. This requires working closely with internal clients and external companies to evaluate opportunities, define strategies and implement innovative solutions for the selection of suppliers. The role also entails managing existing relationships to ensure value from supply chain spend leveraging the three levers of price, demand and process improvements.

The candidate will ideally have proven experience within R&D, Clinical Trials and/or medical Sourcing and Category Management with some legal or contracting background.

The Role

  • Apply strategic sourcing processes, utilising project management skills and techniques to ensure timely delivery.
  • Manage supplier relationships in conjunction with business areas.
  • Act as an escalation point for contractual and performance issues.
  • Negotiate and develop contracts.
  • Manage sourcing/tendering process, utilising eSourcing type tools.
  • Provide commercial advice to business areas as required.
  • Work with internal business partners to develop approved supplier strategies and listings listings in key areas of R&D responsibility, including;

    • Clinical Pharmacology
    • Global Patient Safety
    • Clinical Trials
    • Regulatory activities
    • Statistics and Data Management
    • Health Outcomes / Real World Evidence
    • Continuing Medical Education

  • Promote and ensure compliance with procurement processes and Financial Responsibility Authorisation Policy

The Person



  • MBA or Degree level of education in supply chain, business administration or information technology
  • A good knowledge of procurement processes and procedures
  • 3-5 years Procurement, Category management experience to include R&D, Clinical Trials and/or medical
  • Ability to interpret and evaluate multiple source information and make recommendations
  • Comfortable with external interactions and negotiations
  • Experience of interacting with External parties as part of previous role(s)
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English. Additional languages capability would be advantageous
  • CIPS / IIPMM / ISM qualification and/or relevant Procurement experience is preferred
